Our Story
At Trixies Salon & Spa, beauty is never one-size-fits-all. We are a team of passionate hairstylists, custom hair color specialists, spa professionals, and wellness-focused beauty experts dedicated to creating personalized experiences that help every guest feel confident, empowered, and cared for.
Located in the heart of Des Moines, Trixies has become known for luxury salon and spa services with a deeply personal approach. From lived-in blondes and dimensional brunettes to vivid transformations and corrective color, we specialize in customized hair color designed specifically for your lifestyle, maintenance goals, skin tone, and individuality. Our team believes incredible hair starts with listening, education, creativity, and a customized consultation experience that puts your needs first.
But Trixies is more than a salon.
We are also proud to be building one of the area’s most intentional wellness-focused beauty teams, specializing in supportive beauty and self-care services for guests experiencing oncology treatments, menopause-related hair and skin changes, thinning hair, alopecia, and hair loss. Our wellness team is passionate about creating a safe, compassionate, and uplifting environment where guests can feel beautiful during every season of life. Through customized scalp care, wellness services, hair loss support, wigs, extensions, restorative treatments, oncology-conscious spa experiences, and personalized education, we strive to care for both the emotional and physical side of beauty.
At Trixies, we believe luxury should feel welcoming, not intimidating.
Our guests unwind in a boutique salon atmosphere designed to feel warm, inclusive, and comfortable. From relaxing wellness enhancements like hand massages, hydrating eye treatments, scalp rituals, and calming spa touches to diverse music and meaningful conversations, every detail is intentionally created to help our guests slow down, recharge, and feel taken care of.
Education is also at the core of who we are. Our team is committed to advanced training in hair color, cutting, wellness, spa services, scalp health, hair loss solutions, and beauty trends so we can continue bringing innovative techniques and elevated experiences to our guests. We are passionate about staying ahead of industry trends while never losing the human connection that makes our salon experience different.

Since opening our doors, Trixies has remained deeply committed to supporting local nonprofits, schools, small businesses, chambers, and community organizations throughout Iowa. Giving back is woven into our culture, and through Heart of a Hairdresser, founded by Tricia Rivas, we continue our mission of making a positive impact through beauty, compassion, mentorship, and service.
Over the years, Trixies has proudly been recognized by industry leaders including Salon Today’s Top 200 Salons and for excellence in branding, culture, and digital marketing. But our greatest accomplishment will always be the relationships we build with our guests, our team, and our community.

Meet Tricia - Trixies Founder
Tricia Rivas is a proud Southside Des Moines native, beauty industry veteran, entrepreneur, mentor, and fierce cheerleader for small businesses and the communities they serve. A graduate of La’ James International College, Tricia founded Trixie’s Salon & Spa in 2006 with one chair, a big vision, and a deep belief that beauty is about so much more than hair.
What began as a dream has grown into a thriving salon and wellness culture built on compassion, community, transparency, and connection. Over the years, Tricia has created a space where guests feel seen, team members feel empowered, and giving back is woven into the everyday heartbeat of the business.
At the center of everything she does is what Tricia calls the “Heart of a Hairdresser” — the belief that this industry has the power to change lives far beyond the salon chair. That passion has led Trixie’s into meaningful partnerships throughout the community, including work alongside retirement communities, hospice care, and the John Stoddard Cancer Center, where the team helps support individuals navigating hair loss, wellness journeys, and some of life’s most tender moments with dignity, compassion, and care.
Tricia is especially passionate about serving and mentoring small business owners across Iowa, with a special love for rural communities and the entrepreneurs working hard to keep them alive and thriving. Through mentoring, speaking, community partnerships, and her consulting work with Culture Compass, she continues to advocate for small businesses, leadership development, healthy workplace culture, and building brands rooted in authenticity and purpose.
Outside of the salon, Tricia is happiest exploring back roads with her family, road tripping in her Jeep, supporting local businesses, antiquing, thrifting, camping, discovering hidden gems across rural America, and finding inspiration in the stories of everyday people doing extraordinary things.
Her favorite quote, “Live the life you’ve imagined” by Henry David Thoreau, continues to guide both her life and leadership. For Tricia, that imagined life has never been about perfection or status — it’s been about building something meaningful, creating opportunities for others, loving her community fiercely, and leaving people better than she found them.
